I had the great pleasure to sit down with THEE David James and interrogate...I mean interview him. Check it!
MN: What made you decide to take
the self-publishing leap?
DJ: In
my mind, there isn’t much that differs from traditional publishing and self if
you do either correctly. Editors, designers, and agents are a significant part
of both worlds. The reason I decided to self publish was because of timing. It
was the right time for me to publish Light of the Moon.
MN: I’m pretty sure that’s the
best answer ever! I completely agree! So, David, what inspires you?
DJ: I’m
inspired by books and movies and life. I find that if I’m not reading, I’m not
writing. I generally read a book every other day, and that keeps my words
flowing. I also can’t write when it’s completely silent, so I have to have some
kind of sound in the background. I know that a lot of writers work to music,
but I prefer to write with a movie playing in the background. I don’t know why!
MN: What is the last book you
read?
DJ: I’m
currently reading Proxy by Alex London and loving
the futuristic tale.
MN: Name your favorite 2013
moment/memory so far?
DJ: Probably
the release of Shades of the Stars, the
companion anthology to Light of the Moon. Shades
of the Stars is a huge release for me, and I love all the stories
included in it. Seeing it finally alive was amazing.
MN: What's next for David James?
DJ: The
sequel to Light of the Moon, Shadow of the Sun,
will be released in late 2013, and I have a few projects I’m developing in the
meantime. I can’t reveal any titles or ideas just yet, but I am staying in the
young adult realm.
MN: Being mysterious, I see. ;)
You know how to keep us anxiously waiting. Are you planning on making any
appearances/attending any events in the near future?
DJ: Of
course! I don’t know any specific dates yet, but I update my blog with events
as they happen. I love interacting with readers, so I hope to attend more
events in the future.
MN: *Mental Note: Stalk blog
daily* Name a fictional character you’d like to have as a real life bestie?
DJ: I
would love to be friends with every single person in the cast of Harry Potter.
Especially Hermione. I think she is incredibly strong and loyal and I bet she
could talk for hours about good books she’s read.
MN: Nice choice! What is your
most prized possession?
DJ: Probably
my books, honestly. I love to escape to new worlds, and I have too many books
to name.
MN: Time for the speed
round…respond with the first thing that comes to mind:
Color? Blue or green.
Song? “Dreams” by Van Halen
Food? Pizza
Place? Lake
Book? Shiver
Season? Fall
Holiday? Christmas
Animal? Dog
